General Notes: The first two systems are not certified voting systems but are used as an adjunct to provide accessibility voting in some jurisdictions. The next three systems are ballot-marking devices. In these systems, the one and only official vote is the paper ballot, with which a voter interacts electronically to provide accessibility. The remaining six systems are DRE’s in which at least one vote record is electronic with an option for a voter verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) which may be an official ballot of record.

Specific Notes

1) These systems can deliver large text size outputs, but depending on ballot layout the system is also capable of NOT delivering the required outputs.

2) This system does not have an integrated audio-tactile ballot. Navigation is provided via tactile overlay and audio is from a separate tape player.

3) This system uses an in-line, add-on device to provide the auto reset of volume output to default that depends on poll workers to deploy properly.

4) These systems provide a scanner to deliver audio (speech) read back of a bar code on a VVPAT, but not the content that will be counted as the official vote.

5) These systems provide a speed adjustment that may or may not meet the 70% to 200% requirement depending on configuration.

6) These systems do not provide speech or large print output that communicates write-in content (output says “write-in”).

General Note about Review: Each of these systems was reviewed “hands on” in April or August of 2005 and every attempt was made to independently confirm conformance to the standards rather than relying on vendor provided information. The system current at the time was reviewed. Known new access features added since the review are noted. The following are the specific systems reviewed:

ES&S AutoMARK Voter Assist Terminal, Version 1.0 ES&S/Unisyn InkaVote UniLect PATRIOT with VVPAT

Populex Digital Paper Ballot System Sequoia AVC Edge with VeriVote Hart Intercivic e-Slate

Diebold AccuVote TSX DRE with printer module AccuPoll DRE AVS-1000 v 2.5 ES&S iVotronic with real time paper audit trail
